SIZE:

Getting sized for a suit is a relatively easy process. You most likely fit into one of the (3) categories below:

#1: You already know your sizes if you own a suit, sportscoat, blazer or tuxedo.
If you currently own a suit or tux jacket and it still fits, simply reference those sizes. You can normally find the size in the inside jacket pocket. Simply order that size and you should be good to go!

#2: You do not own a suit, sportscoat, blazer or tuxedo, but you do have access to a local tailor shop.
Once again, getting measurements for your suit should be a relatively easy process. You can always visit a local tailor shop to have your measurements taken (NOTE: you should not be charged a fee because the tailor will usually expect you to come back to him for your tailoring/alterations needs).

#3: You do not fit into the previous two categories, but you do own a tape measure and have someone who can measure you.
As long as you have a tape measure and friend/family member, you can easily have your measurements accurately taken.

Be sure to stand up straight with your arms at your sides. Stand relaxed, yet still erect. Have your friend/family member take the tape measure around your chest (at its fullest part) UNDER your arms. Helpful hint: have your friend/family member insert a finger between the tape measure and your body to ensure a comfortable fit. This would be your "Chest Size". (Ex. 40, 42, 44, etc). Below are 4 measurements that you may consider taking and then you can use those measurements in the "Jacket Sizing Reference Guide" chart below.

It's important to note that people come in different shapes and sizes. The chart below will not necessarily be an exact match for all people, but it serves as a good general size chart. If you happen to already know your jacket size, we recommend ordering what you normally order. Don't feel like you have to order based on this sample size chart.

FIT: CLASSIC, MODERN, SLIM OR ULTRA SLIM?

When it comes to fit, you may see terms such as CLASSIC FIT, MODERN FIT, SLIM FIT or ULTRA SLIM FIT.

• CLASSIC FIT: A traditional cut, considered your fullest cut. Available jacket sizes are usually 34 through 70.
  
  
• MODERN FIT: Think of modern fit as your updated classic fit. Still a comfortable fit like a classic fit, but the jacket will usually be just slightly tapered. Available jacket sizes are usually 34 through 70. Today, the modern fit tends to be more popular than the classic fit.
  
  
• SLIM FIT: The jacket on a slim fit is more tapered compared to the classic fit and slim fit. The jacket is normally a little shorter in length as well. Available jacket sizes usually range from 34 - 44 (sometimes higher pending on manufacturer). Remember that both the jacket and pants are going to be tighter compared to a modern fit / classic fit. If you know your normal SLIM FIT size because you are accustomed wearing SLIM FIT clothing, we recommend that you order your normal SLIM FIT size. However, if you're not used to ordering SLIM FIT items, you may want to consider ordering a size larger than what you normally wear.
  
  
• ULTRA SLIM FIT: The tightest fit and usually a shorter jacket in design. Be prepared for a very tight fit (both in the jacket and pants). Only slender body tights can normally pull off this fit. Available jacket sizes usually range from 32 - 44.

WAIST SIZE:

Selecting your waist size should be a relatively easy process. Let's get started by answering the following question:

Do I have a pair of dress pants or khakis in my closet that already fit me well?

If "YES" ...
Simply find the size label on your pants. It is usually located in the inside waistband of the pants. 

If "NO" ...
You will then have to measure your waist. Your waist is located 4 fingers below your belly button (see video below for reference). Position the tape measure horizontally at your waist and then circle it around your abdomen and entire torso. Make sure that the tape lies horizontal on all sides of your torso. Place the end of the tape measure which reads “0” at the spot on the tape where the loop circles your waist completely.

(NOTE: pull the tape measure tighter, making it comfortably snug. It should match the tightness of a pant's waistband. This measurement will likely be larger than your normal pant size. That is ok. In general, we recommend ordering your normal DRESS PANT size. However, keep in mind that jeans tend to stretch more than dress pants. For larger gentleman, your dress pants size is normally larger than your jean size that you are used to wearing.)

INSEAM:

"Inseam" is the measurement (measured in inches) from the seam of your inner crotch down to the bottom of the trousers.

For example, when you purchase a pair of jeans or khakis, you may buy a size "34 waist / 32 inseam", "38 waist / 30 inseam", etc.  Inseam is often related to height. Here are some general guidelines:

(*NOTE: the above Inseam General Guidelines are only basic guidelines. We know people come in different shapes and sizes. Sometimes you may have a taller person with short legs and a tall torso; other times you may have a shorter person with long legs and a short torso. In cases like this, the preferred inseam for that individual will be different. The above information shoud be used just as a guide. Our recommendation is to order the inseam that you normally order when it comes to dress pants.)



UNHEMMED VS PRE-HEMMED:

Most factory new tuxedo pant styles come unhemmed/unfinished. This means that the pants are not hemmed to a specific length at the bottom. Unhemmed pants provide plenty of extra fabric for your inseam (37+ inches of fabric). Once you receive your unhemmed pants, you will want a local tailor (or friend/family member who can sew) to hem the pants to your desired length.

Although most manufacturer's tuxedo pants come unhemmed, there are a couple brands who sell their pants pre-hemmed. If you prefer your pants pre-hemmed, click here to check out these pre-hemmed pants.

FIT:

VEST SIZING:

When selecting your vest, it is recommended to factor in both your "waist size" and "jacket size". For most gentleman, "jacket size" is a good guide to use. However, if you have an athletic build with a small waist, you may want to order based on your waist size. For example, suppose you wear a 42R jacket, but you only have a 32 waist. In this case, the size "Small" would work better for you. For less-athletic gentleman who have "larger bellies", you also want to factor in your waist measurement. For example, suppose you wear a size 50 coat with a 48 waist size. If you go based on just jacket size, the size XL may be be your initial selection. However, with the 48" waist size, a size 2XL vest would be a more comfortable fit in this case.

TUXEDO SHIRT SIZING:

Selecting your shirt size should be a relatively easy process. Let's get started by answering the following question:


Do I currently have a dress shirt in my closet that already fits me well?

If "YES" ...
Simply find the size label on your dress shirt. It is usually located in the inside of the shirt near the collar. Below is an example of a dress shirt tag:

As you can see in the photo above, there are usually (2) sets of numbers on a shirt label. The first number (ex. 15 1/2) is the "collar size". The second number (ex. 34 - 35) is the "sleeve length". You should be able to find a similar tag in the dress shirt that you currently own.

If "NO" ...
We will want to get your "collar size" and your "sleeve length measurement". You'll need a flexible tape measure and someone to assist you in taking the measurement.

TO MEASURE MY COLLAR SIZE:
Take the measurement around the base of your neck and add 1/2 inch to the measurement; this is your "collar size".

TO MEASURE MY SLEEVE LENGTH:

COMMON MISTAKES WITH SLEEVE LENGTH:
Some gentleman will measure their "sleeve length" incorrectly because they will start their measurement at the "top of the shoulder" instead of starting at the "middle of the back / bottom of neck". This can often reduce several inches from your correct measurement. When this happens, gentleman will sometimes order a 30/31 sleeve instead of the desired longer sleeve length. 

For reference, here are some general sizing guidelines regarding "shirt sleeve lengths":

30/31 sleeve = usually 5'5" or shorter
32/33 sleeve = usually 5'6" to 5'9"
34/35 sleeve = usually 5'10" to 6'1"
36/37 sleeve = usually 6'2" to 6'4"
38/39 sleeve = usually 6'5" or taller

* NOTE: obviously, gentleman come in different shapes and sizes so the above guidelines may not be 100% accurate for everyone; however, it does serve as a good general guideline

REGULAR / MODERN FIT vs. SLIM FIT:

Regular / Modern Fit shirts are available in sizes 14 to 24 and are designed to fit the average gentleman. It is a comfortable and relaxed fit. For gentleman who desire a shirt that is more tailored in the chest, waist and arms for a trimmer fit, they can go with the Slim Fit shirts. Slim Fit shirts are usually available in sizes 14.5 to 18.5 (depending on the brand).

Both pre-tied and self tie bow ties are adjustable and accommodate most neck sizes. Please refer to the size chart below for details.
